Shortly after I posted up a description of the typical Cuban drum set up, Rob sent in this video of Riveron (Manolito's drummer) from a concert in Europe.
On this song, he is playing mostly the bells and the timbales - with accents over on the drum set. In other songs it would be the opposite. Watch how relaxed Riveron is, and how he makes the timbales and the drum set one instrument.
Note: If you had an equivalent video of Samuel Formell from Van Van, the set up would be the same, the sound would be totally different.
