WTF Is Going On Over at CKLN?

I first got wind of a 'kerfuffle' when I received an invite via Facebook to a meeting over at Ryerson this Saturday entitled A Call To Action at CKLN

Since the Annual General Meeting last spring, a small group of people have been consolidating power over CKLN, appointing themselves to key positions at the station, moving towards a corporate agenda contrary to our specified mandate of radio for the people by the people.

Basically, the meeting is to create a quorum to 'impeach' the present board

The "Special Membership Meeting" notice below has been made legitimate by the 135 signatures collected in good faith and in solidarity from student, community and volunteer staff members of CKLN and in accordance to CKLN's governing (not draft) by-laws which state that a "Special Meeting may be called by 100 members". This notice has been posted in all the required locations and sent to the interim station manager, Mike Phillips and the Board of Directors’ legal counsel Allison Greene from Iler Campbell Barristers and Soliciters.

A couple of conversations yesterday revealed somewhat differing views on what is going on at CKLN. "(T)he lack of due process, less community, more corporate and if (CKLN) really represents the community it's supposed to be serving" was the summation from one observor. Another friend with extensive history at the station dismissed the corporate verses community issues, characterizing the dispute as a simple one of 'who gets the jobs'.

(Warning!! The above does not represent an extensive, objective and/or thorough airing of all sides of this issue OK? Just what I heard yesterday. Feel free to use the comments section.)

Marc at Scrolling Eye is digging around, I'm sure he'll come up with stuff.
